Have your own hides tanned!

Many people prefer to make stuff (or have things made) out of deer that they
shot (I think harvested is now politically correct) themselves. We can provide this
service if you agree to the following:

1.Do a good job skinning the beast! Pull the hide off, use your knife sparingly.
There is a good article on skinning here: Braintan.com Just click back to return
here or enjoy that site - its great. Remove excess fat and flesh as thick chunks will inhibit salt penetration.

.

2. Salt -  apply 3-4 lbls. of non iodized salt (kosher salt in supermarkets) fold
hide in half long ways then roll it up. Let it drain for 2 days, be careful a lot
of liquid will be drawn out by the salt. At this point it is safe to be shipped, however for hair on tanning or just to save on shipping cost proceed as follows. Unroll the hide and shake off salt. Resalt with 3-4 lbls of fresh salt and roll up. After 2 days unroll - shake off salt and let air dry. After drying hides can be stored indefinitely.
2A. Alternate method would be to freeze and send 2 day delivery.

3.You can either ship it to us or drop it off. After its salted its ok to put it in
a plastic bag. Make sure your name is attached!!!

4.Cost of tanning .Price List. Square footage is figured by
measuring from the center -  width x length in inches and rounded to the
half sq. ft. EX. 41" x 27" = 1517" divided by 144 = 10.53
10.5 sq. ft.
Color options:
Braintanned hides - white, golden brown, dark brown.

Note: All hides are washable!

5. I'll notify you when your hide(s) are done (usually 4-6 weeks) and will ship them
promptly after receiving payment. If I am running behind I will notify you.

6. Shit happens - if for some reason your hide is damaged by us (dog et it, garage
burned down ect.)  I will replace it with a comparable hide.

7.Keep in mind that you will get back your own hide(s) so please be carefull when skinning -  scoremarks and holes are permenant! For hair on hides it is extremly important to promtly skin and salt the hide otherwise the hair will slip (fall out)unfortunatly I can't controll how you cared for your hide so I can't guarantee hair slippagebut if properly cared for it is unlikly to occur.

8.Don't like the tanning job? Just return it and I will send you your money back
plus $5.00. (That's what I pay for hides). Not applicable on hair slippage.
